monster hunter!

so i've done a little creative writing after being nudged by the tutors at college to get the ball rolling on the story front and reading a cool article on character development twice, once in Digit magazine (a back issue) and once in Leo Hartas' art of video game characters(good book!). my fan fiction world of monster hunter goes a little like this:

The world of monster hunter is a beautiful tree covered wilderness with primitive technology where humans find it very difficult to settle and develop due to the harsh environment where towns and cities are forever besieged by monstrous creatures such as wyverns and dragons. Inspired by legends and driven by fantasies of fame and glory many people set out to hunt and kill the monsters to make a name for themselves as a monster hunter, an elite and skilled huntsman able to track, trap and defeat enormous monstrosities with the help of their teammates.

Hunters famously follow a set of rules governed by the hunters guild whereby they must take contracts out on a monster before hunting it and contracts are only to be taken at guild established outposts. Only three injuries are allowed to be sustained while hunting and as part of a hunters contract fee they will be rescued should danger befall them up to 3 times in any given hunt at a large fee to the hunter who took the contract. It is possible (and suggested) that hunters gather into small teams the restriction on the team size is four members and many hunters operate in groups of four. This is done by signing up for another hunters contract in the guildhall and is convenient as the contract bill and rescue fees will be paid for only by the contractor.

Powerful hunters become world renowned and are much loved and respected but at the same time much gossip also gets generated regarding a powerful hunters private and professional life. In this way powerful hunters are much like film celebrities.

Living in the outskirts of a city or at a village far away from other settlements means more attacks by monsters as you’d essentially be on the front line, comparatively city life is very simple and relaxed. This can be tough but many hunters seek these places out as there is more opportunity to make a name for yourself.
