ral omega grad

ral omega grad is a manga series about a young boy (ral) and a demon shadow monster dragon parasite (grad) who is friends with ral and lives in his shadow. they share a body and kick ass together in a variety of interesting ways in order to impress cute girls and cop a feel. what brilliant though is that the art is made by the same legendary artist behind the death note series, takeshi obata. a hero of mine.

anyway, this graphic novel series helped me with the page 5 layout because it has some great images of grad, a huge dragon monster so i learned all kinds of tricks from looking at this. like how to make the monster looker bigger, getting the 'camera' underneath it and stuff, drawing it in frame with smaller people. great stuff, go read ral omega grad.

kutku

monster hunters one and only kutku. ref pics from the game for learning how to draw the little fellow

i found this page particularly hard to draft for but check out my next couple of posts to see what i used for referance and learning.

page 4

i'm not sure if anyone who's not played the game will get this bit but its for the fans really anyway. you get 3 strikes with any mission on monster hunter if you fail you get rescued by cats and a cart and dragged back to base camp ( the area you started the hunt in)

page 3

this page was well cool to make, using the ref images that lucy and me photographed on my phone and just having the game playing on a screen near me while i worked. i'm pretty happy with the 'underneath' perspective shots, i feel like i'm learning a lot. thanks frazer irving! x

page 2

getting along with the layout for the comic pages still, trying to stick to a page a day or faster but its a little tough because i've got so much learning to do while i'm making it to inform what it should be like. anyway, you can see some of the drawings as i learned to do some of the gear in this page and the layout page itself at the bottom.

getting on with it

i've got and and been making a real plan for the comic, better than that dirt- rough one i used for the presentation. this time i'm using referance images from photo's, old work and other comic artists as inspiration and for tutoring me to draw comics the proper way, leraning about panels, layout, more dynamic poses and body language, priority of information ect.. so far i've mostly been looking to artists work i've mentioned in previous posts and looking at old x men and superman annuals i've saved from when i was a kid. x
